Marc Tierney happy at Colchester, says John Ward

Colchester United boss John Ward insists left-back Marc Tierney is not angling for a move away from the club.

The 25-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, has yet to commit to a new deal with the U's.

"We've made an offer to him and I want to chat to him. We want him to stay, he wants to stay," Ward told BBC Essex.

"But, as everyone knows, players are available in January if their contract is up at the end of the season and we'll wait and see on that."

Reports this week suggested a handful of Championship clubs were lining up a move for the former Shrewsbury full-back, who is currently recovering from a hernia operation.

"That story didn't come from Marc and it didn't come from the football club. But it's interesting where it did come from," added Ward.

"I know it wasn't from Marc because he was in hospital when it came out and I know Marc wants to chat to me as well.

"But as we know some people in football have other motives."

Meanwhile, with the English fixture list being ravaged by the winter weather, the U's boss has called for the Football League to consider a blanket postponement of all games when conditions take a turn for the worse.

"There's an absolute case for it but that's obvious isn't it? That's quite a sensible suggestion," he said.

"We work in football remember and it's not always the sensible side we look at.

"I think we leave it to the last minute. There's a kind of mistrust, people not sure if the motives are right, but when you've got weather like we have it would make sense."
