Colchester United midfielder Andy Bond is keen to make the most of his promotion to the Football League.

The 24-year-old opened his U's account in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at the Community Stadium.

Bond joined from Barrow in June after being spotted by manager John Ward while scouting another player.

"I think I played well last year and deserved people to come and look at me and I've got my chance and I've got to take it," he told BBC Essex.

He added he was thrilled to have netted his first goal in league football so soon into the new season.

"As soon as I hit it sweet, I knew it was going in," he said.

"It was my home debut and I couldn't have asked for anything more really."

I think we're easily going to change these single points into three points

Colchester have drawn both of their opening league games but the former Crewe Alexandra trainee is confident about the season ahead.

"From what I've seen, they're a good bunch of lads and I think there's quality in the side," he said.

"I think we're easily going to change these single points into three points."
