Williams made 36 appearances for the Cumbrian side last season
Colchester United have completed the signing of Carlisle goalkeeper Ben Williams for an undisclosed fee.
The ex-Manchester United trainee has signed a two-year deal after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
The deal appeared to have broken down earlier this month, when U's striker Scott Vernon rejected a move north as part of a swap deal.
But the two clubs a fee for the 26-year-old former Crewe man earlier this week.
Williams is the U's fifth summer signing, with Ashley Vincent, David Fox, Lee Beevers and Magnus Okuonghae having already put pen-to-paper, while Alan Maybury and Pat Baldwin have signed contract extensions.
He is likely to be available for the U's pre-season match at Tiptree United on Saturday.
