Lambert refuses to be downbeat after the draw

Colchester United boss Paul Lambert took plenty of positives from Saturday's Essex derby despite conceding an injury-time equaliser.

The U's drew 3-3 with local rivals Southend United on Saturday.

Lambert told BBC Essex: "I'm delighted with what they've given me. The lads have been terrific."

"We were 2-0 down in a derby game and came back to take the lead. They've given everything they've got," the U's boss added.

Southend opened up a two-goal lead early in the first half, before Johnnie Jackson gave Colchester a lifeline on 35 minutes.

Mark Yeates equalised mid-way through the second half, and Anthony Wordsworth put the north Essex side ahead with 10 minutes left.

Lambert praised Wordsworth's goal: "Terrific header, terrific cross in the first place. He got in at the back post and we'd thought we'd done enough, but that's what happens in the penalty box."

Southend's Jean-Francois Christophe grabbed an injury-time leveller to earn both sides a point in League One.

The result leaves the U's 18th in the table and means Lambert's team have taken seven points from four games under his leadership.
