Symons secured his second win as caretaker manager
Colchester United caretaker boss Kit Symons praised his team's professional approach against Gillingham.
The U's beat the Kent side 1-0 on Tuesday night to move into the last 16 of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Symons told BBC Essex: "I've always said you have to play with both your heart and also your head.
"If one of those is lacking, if there's not enough thought or passion or desire, you're not going to win - but we showed both [of those qualities]."
Symons added: "We thought about what we were doing, we weren't running around like headless chickens - and collectively it was a good performance which I am very pleased about."
