Clyde capture versatile German

Clyde manager John Brown has acted on a recommendation to secure the services of German defender Michael Ohnesorge.

The 24-year-old has impressed Brown during a trial spell at the club after arriving from SV Elversberg on a tip-off from countryman Jorg Albertz.

Ohnesorge played alongside Albertz as Clyde lost 1-0 to Rangers in a pre- season match at Broadwood on Tuesday.

The versatile stopper, who can also play on either side of midfield, put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Ohnesorge's signature was made possible by a significant contribution from the Bully Wee Fund, a Supporters' Trust-run scheme that helps provide funds for Brown's transfer activities.

As well as Albertz, Clyde also fielded his former Rangers team-mates Arthur Numan and Brian Laudrup in the friendly fixture against Walter Smith's full-strength Rangers side.

A tight contest, in front of an impressive crowd of 7653, was decided in the 79th minute when a Charlie Adams shot struck Nacho Novo and was deflected past Clyde goalkeeper David Hutton.

Albertz came out of retirement last season to help former Rangers team-mate Brown lead Clyde clear of relegation, but the veteran German decided against continuing playing this coming season.

Former Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram is now a Clyde coach and Laudrup admitted that he too had been tempted to come out of retirement to play for Clyde.

"The Goalie tried to persuade me into that last season," the former AC Milan and Chelsea winger told BBC Sport.

"At one point, I thought seriously about it, but you have to be honest with yourself and I am near my 40th birthday and the legs are a bit slow."

However, Laudrup was happy to turn out as a guest in an attempt to boost the gates at Broadwood.

"It's a difficult moment for Clyde Football Club and, if I can help a little bit, that would be fantastic," he added.
