Former Rangers midfielder Jorg Albertz is set to come out of retirement to sign for First Division outfit Clyde.

The 37-year-old is a former team-mate of Bully Wee manager John Brown and Clyde goalkeeping coach Andy Goram.

"Clyde have some difficulties and need an experienced player, so I will try to help them," Albertz told BBC Sport.

"I finished my career last year but I've been keeping fit. I really don't know that much about them but I'm looking forward to playing again."

The former German international, who played for Rangers from 1996 to 2001 and won three SPL titles, last played for Fortuna Düsseldorf.

He trained with Clyde last week and Albertz is delighted to return to Scotland.

"Bomber and The Goalie are true Rangers legends and great friends of mine," he added.

"They asked me to come over and that's what friends are for.

"I will try to give them a lift and hopefully we can get everything sorted and keep Clyde in the league."

Clyde are currently in the relegation play-off spot in Division One but trail Morton by just one point, with Livingston a further two points better off.

"Jorg is a good friend of mine and he has a lot of feelings for this country and is keen to help us out," Brown told the club website.

"His vast experience will rub off on our players and he will want to get on the ball and make things happen.

"All in all it will be a great bonus between now and the end of the season to have him involved in the first-team squad and hopefully that will happen very soon."
