Clyde's Williams appeal rejected
Iain Brines flashes the red card at Alex Williams
Alex Williams was sent off by Iain Brines
Clyde's appeal against a red card shown to striker Alex Williams in their Scottish Cup tie with Gretna has been rejected by the Scottish FA.

Williams will miss Saturday's First Division match away to Stranraer.

Because he is through the disciplinary threshold, he will also miss one further league match.

However, he will be available for Tuesday's fourth-round replay at Gretna along with opposition defender Chris Innes, who was also sent off.

The Cumbernauld club had been angered by referee Iain Brines decision.

Manager Graham Roberts told BBC Sport: "The boy never did a thing and we intend to fight this all the way."

Brines cited violent conduct in his report to the SFA.

Williams was pulled up for a challenge on Innes inside the Division Two outfit's penalty box.

Brines sent the striker off for an alleged kick at Innes and the defender was also shown a red card for kicking out in retaliation.

"He did not stamp on the defender and TV evidence proves that," added Roberts.

Gretna did not appeal the red card shown to Innes.

Clyde accepted that they had no right of appeal against the later sending off of defender Chris Higgins as it was for two bookable offences.
