Chesterfield complete Currie deal

Currie made 31 league appearances for Luton last season

Chesterfield have completed the signing of experienced midfielder Darren Currie following his release by Luton Town.

The paperwork has now been finalised after the player had earlier agreed a three-year deal with the Spireites.

He told Radio Sheffield: "I've had interest from other clubs, but what always sits nicely with myself is a manager that really wants me."

The 33-year-old has made a total of 679 appearances for 11 clubs in his career, scoring 82 goals.

He began his career as a trainee at West Ham but made a name for himself at Wycombe Wanderers.

Currie moved to Championship side Ipswich Town for £250,000 in 2004 following a short spell with Brighton & Hove Albion.

After loan spells at Coventry City and Derby County he joined Luton Town in July 2007.

Currie, who had been linked with a return to Brighton, is set to play his first game on Tuesday when the Spireites host Sheffield Wednesday in their latest pre-season friendly.
