Chesterfield have agreed a deal to sign Port Vale midfielder Paul Harsley on a free transfer.

Harsley, Vale's captain and player of the year last season, is out of contract in the summer and turned down a new deal to stay at Vale Park.

The 29-year-old said: "Although I was happy at Vale I liked the sound of what was happening here."

Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson said: "I am delighted as Paul brings a wealth of valuable experience to the squad."

The Spireites have already agreed to sign former Sheffield United central defender Rob Page on a two-year deal.

Last week midfielder Derek Niven extended his contract for a further 12 months.
