Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson has added Alan Knill to his backroom staff.
Knill, who was sacked as Rotherham manager at the start of March, will assist Richardson with coaching duties.
Richardson told his club's website: "Avoiding relegation will be a team effort so I'm delighted Alan is joining to support me during a crucial time."
Knill, 42, who played alongside Richardson at Halifax before spells with Bury, Scunthorpe and Rotherham, will stay until the end of the season.
