Spireites capture Dawson
Chesterfield have made their first summer signing by capturing young Nottingham Forest defender Kevin Dawson.

The 20-year-old was released by Forest at the end of the season and has now made the short trip to Saltergate.

Dawson started eight League games during his time at the City Ground and featured three times during Forest's end-of-season run-in during March.

He also played five times in the League for Barnet during a loan spell in the 2000/01 campaign.

Released

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Nathan Abbey is leaving Chesterfield after failing to agree terms on a new contract.

Abbey was the regular number one at Saltergate this season after joining the club on a 12-month deal from Luton Town summer.

The 24-year-old was offered a new contract by manager Dave Rushbury but after talks broke down Abbey has now been released.

Rushbury will look to bring in a new first-choice keeper for next season.

The Chesterfield boss said: "Nathan Abbey was not willing to agree the new contract on offer.

"As we are keeping a tight reign on wages, the matter couldn't be progressed any further," Rushbury told the club's website.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have agreed to visit Saltergate for a testimonial for former Chesterfield manager John Duncan on Saturday, July 27.
