Anthony Barry the latest to exit Chester City

Chester City have lost another player following midfielder Anthony Barry's decision to have his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Barry, 23, who has also had talks with Fleetwood Town, is now expected to sign for Chester's neighbours Wrexham.

His exit came just a day after boss Jim Harvey parted company with the Blue Square Premier's bottom club.

And it follows reports that Chester's squad have still not been paid for the last two months.

At a time when cash-strapped Chester have lost their last two home games to the weather, it further increases the stricken club's woes.

Chester appointed a new director of football, Morell Maison, who has no experience above Blue Square North level, on Boxing Day.

He is having to operate with depleted resources as he struggles to put together a squad for Saturday's scheduled Blue Square Premier trip to Crawley.

Harvey was already operating with a worryingly thin squad following the sudden exit of a clutch of key loan players, Jonny Flynn, Clark Keltie, Michael Coulson and Mark Beesley in November.

They were joined by striker Gregg Blundell, who has now completed a move to Barrow, after initially going on loan.

And now clubs are monitoring other City players including highly-rated former Wales Under-17 midfielder James Owen, defender Shaun Kelly, and top scorer Nick Chadwick.
