Wright returns as Chester manager

Chester have announced that Mark Wright will return to the club as manager until the end of the season.

The 42-year-old former Liverpool and England defender makes a comeback at the Deva Stadium only 18 months after leaving in acrimonious circumstances.

Wright went on to manage Peterborough but was sacked last month on the grounds of gross misconduct.

He has launched a legal action against Posh - for alleged breach of contract and the harm caused to his reputation.

Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan says he had no hesitation in offering Wright the job, despite their problems in the past.

"What's gone is gone and in football you never say never because anything can happen in this game," said Vaughan.

"His record speaks for itself. He got us back into the league and he left Peterborough in the play-offs.

"I'm sure he's learnt from his mistakes and that I've learnt from my mistakes. We've drawn a line under all that now and we've moved on.

"I haven't appointed him for him to win any popularity contests. I've brought him in to get Chester out of trouble and I'm sure he'll do that."
