Cheltenham Town have given new deals to goalkeeper Scott Brown and versatile defender Andy Gallinagh.

"I'm delighted as they have both been a big part of the club for a number of years," manager Mark Yates told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Brown, 25, joined the club in 2005 as understudy to Shane Higgs while Gallinagh, also 25, is a product of Cheltenham's centre of excellence.

Both players have agreed new two-year deals to stay at Whaddon Road.

Yates added: "Scott Brown is one of the best goalkeepers in the division.

"He kicks it well, he's a great shot-stopper and he's getting better and better at dealing with balls into the box.

"Gallers is a first-rate professional. He has a fantastic attitude and can play in a number of positions.

"He's a bit of a manager's dream. He doesn't moan and keeps his head down. I left him out once or twice last season and he just wanted to prove me wrong in the next game - and he did that."

Yates, who is upbeat about his contract negotiations with players so far this summer, is waiting to hear from Shane Duff, Michael Pook, Dave Bird and Josh Low, who have all been offered new terms.

Andy Gallinagh

"It would have been very easy to wipe the slate clean and start again but I felt that the ones I've offered contracts to would make a difference and keep the continuity going," he added.

"Hopefully there will be more to report later in the week."

"I'm very grateful to have my future sorted out," said Brown, who began his career with home-town club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"I had a bit of interest from clubs at a higher level but I just want to keep playing here and carry on building my reputation as a decent keeper."

Gallinagh added: "There were other options I could have pursued but I thought this was the best one for me. All the staff and fans here have been great so I'm just looking forward to a good season."
