Club may still need council loan

Baker says Cheltenham are being 'prudent' in their financial planning

Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker has said that the club may still look to the borough council as they attempt to ease their financial concerns.

Baker applied for a £100,000 loan earlier in the year after the Robins just avoided entering administration.

"The loan from the council is just one of a number of options we're looking at, it's not something we do lightly," he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"It's not a fresh application, it's the old one on exactly the same terms.

"We've reduced our playing budget substantially this year - and lots of other costs too - but we do need to address our cashflow problems for the coming season."

Baker has been at the helm since before Cheltenham's promotion to the Football League in 1999, and remains committed to the long-term future of the club.

"We had a very good meeting with our bank on Friday with a view to providing additional security to support our overdraft facility.

"In ordinary circumstances, we'd have just gone to our bankers and put a proposition to them, and in a normal banking world, it would have been accepted and approved.

"But of course, we're not in a normal banking world at the moment."
