Robins name Schofield as deputy

John Schofield
Schofield won 23 of his 64 games in charge at Lincoln

Cheltenham manager Martin Allen has named former Lincoln City boss and Walsall number two John Schofield as his assistant.

The 43-year-old ex-midfielder was at the Lincoln helm between May 2006 and October 2007 and was caretaker boss of Walsall for one game in January.

"He's a good coach, he's bright and bubbly and good around the players," Allen told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Schofield has joined the League One strugglers on an expenses-only basis.

Allen added: "It's been well-documented I've been working on my own and it's been very difficult to get to football matches as well as taking training every day.

"I've known him from the courses I've been on and John coming in will hopefully allow me more time to get out and look at players."
