Striker Elvis Hammond has signed an 18-month contract with Cheltenham Town.

The 28-year-old's short-term deal expired in January and manager Martin Allen moved quickly to tie up the former Leicester man on a new contract.

Allen told the club website: "Elvis is getting sharper and with hard work and dedication on his part, he will get better and better."

Meanwhile, midfielders Craig Armstrong and Scott Brown have left by mutual consent, with Brown joining Port Vale.

"We have reached agreement with Craig and Scott over the remaining terms of their contract and they are now free to find other clubs," Allen said.

I believe this is a good deal for the club and another very positive move in the right direction

Hammond has made five starts for the Robins, scoring his first goal for the club in their 28 December defeat by Peterborough United.

He joined Town in November 2008 after being released by the Foxes after a year out with an ankle injury.

His career began at Fulham and loan spells at Bristol Rovers, Norwich City and Dutch side Roosendaal followed before he joined the Foxes.

Allen added: "I believe this is a good deal for the club and another very positive move in the right direction."
