Blues cash in on Casiraghi
Pierluigi Casiraghi
Casiraghi made just 10 appearances for Chelsea
Chelsea have finally accepted defeat in their bid to get Italian striker Pierluigi Casiraghi back to full fitness.

The 31-year-old international made just 10 appearances for the Blues following his transfer from Lazio before suffering a horrific knee injury that has seen him undergo 10 operations.

Stamford Bridge chairman Ken Bates told the Daily Star: " We have been paid 4,050,000 insurance, which will mean Casiraghi can't play top-level football again.

"We gave him 20 months, but he was still walking with a limp, so we had no choice."

That decision has not gone down well with Casiraghi's agent Fabio Parisi however who feels that Chelsea have acted prematurely.

"Of course it was a very, very bad injury and there is only a slim chance of him making a comeback," said Parisi. "But we consider it is still too early to say he will not.

"It looks strange Chelsea should collect the money without Gigi's consent.

"We have appealed to the Premier League about this because his contract requires that an independent medical report is completed and that's not been done.

"We asked for a copy of the insurer's report but didn't receive one and have passed on the problem to lawyers in London.

"We are waiting to see what the FA board or the civil court will decide."

Parisi did reveal that the player was served six months notice by Chelsea, who will stop paying his wages this month.

Meanwhile the agent of Tore Andre Flo says that Chelsea have turned down two big money offers for the striker, believed to be from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Flo's agent Gunnar Martin Kjenner said: "I can confirm two top Spanish clubs offered Chelsea close to 20million for Tore Andre Flo.

"The offers were rejected on the spot. Chelsea said that selling Flo was not an issue."
