Chelsea are counting the cost of their pre-season trip to the United States after three players picked up injuries.
Winger Arjen Robben did not feature in the Blues' 1-1 draw against AC Milan on Sunday because of a hamstring problem.
Midfielder Claude Makelele (head injury) and defender William Gallas (knee) came off in the second half.
Assistant boss Steve Clarke said of Robben: "We're being over cautious. He said it felt a bit tight and we need to make sure he's fit for the new season."
Robben, 21, made only 18 Premiership appearance for Chelsea last season because of a succession of injuries.
But while the Dutchman is expected to be fit for the start of the new season, Gallas is doubtful.
Manager Jose Mourinho said: "Makelele should not be a problem. It's just a knock on his head.
"But William could be a problem for the first game of the championship."
Chelsea's next match is the Community Shield against Arsenal on Sunday.
