Desailly sorry for Atkinson
Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly

Chelsea's Marcel Desailly feels sorry towards Ron Atkinson, despite racist comments made by the former TV pundit.

Atkinson was sacked by ITV Sport following off-air remarks about the French centre-half after Chelsea's Champions League defeat against Monaco.

"I feel sorry for him. I am sure he did not mean it as I believe he said it because he was annoyed about the result of the game," said Desailly.

"I do not forgive him and I do not agree with what he said."

Desailly has yet to speak to Atkinson about the incident, which occurred after Chelsea's 3-1 first-leg defeat.

"He has made a mistake in front of everybody and he will pay for what he has said - I cannot do anything about that," he said.

"There are billions of people in the world. He is just one guy among billions and it will not stop me from continuing with my life."
