Richardson made his Leeds debut in November 2002 in a Uefa Cup game in Tel Aviv.
He made 171 appearances, featuring 23 times last season in League One.
But, having been made skipper last summer, he lost his place in January after suffering a thigh injury, making just five appearances under new boss Simon Grayson.
And he became a free agent after his contract expired on 30 June.
