Richardson seals Charlton move

Charlton have brought in former Leeds United captain Frazer Richardson on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old right-back has become Addicks boss Phil Parkinson's second signing of the summer after rejecting an offer of a new deal at Leeds.

Richardson joins MK Dons' Spanish central defender Miguel Angel Llera as the only other arrival at The Valley.

And Parkinson hopes a change of surroundings will bring the best out of Rotherham-born Richardson.

Parkinson told the club website: "It's a deal I've been working on a long time over the summer.

"It's taken a while to complete so I'm delighted to get him on board.

"It's been a frustrating summer in terms of recruitment so far, but I'm hoping the ball can start rolling and Frazer's a good addition.

"He's been captain of a big club like Leeds and we needed those leadership qualities.

"He's exactly the type of character we're looking for, with experience in this division and higher.

"He's been at Leeds a long time and perhaps now's the time for him to have a fresh challenge."

Richardson made his Leeds debut in November 2002 in a Uefa Cup game in Tel Aviv.

He made 171 appearances, featuring 23 times last season in League One.

But, having been made skipper last summer, he lost his place in January after suffering a thigh injury, making just five appearances under new boss Simon Grayson.

And he became a free agent after his contract expired on 30 June.
