Parkinson believes Charlton will benefit from continuity not more change

Charlton boss Phil Parkinson has conceded his future at the club is in doubt after the Addicks' relegation.

The 41-year-old former Colchester and Hull boss told BBC London 94.9: "We need to come back fighting next year.

"If whoever the manager's going to be can keep this group of players together we'll have a chance of coming back."

But he said that if the club decided to get rid of him and "start all over again", he would "walk out of here with my head held high".

Parkinson added: "The name Charlton Athletic won't get this club promotion next year. It will be the players out on the pitch and over these next six to eight weeks that will make or break next season.

"Things need to be sorted because the most important time for any manager in any club is the off-season."

Charlton have had four managers since Alan Curbishley left in 2006 after 15 years in the position, and Parkinson pointed to this instability as the root cause of the club's current problems.

He said: "The club's had a period of instability and needs a stable period.

"I know all the players, I know which players we're going to get in because we're already in talks with those players and, also, I've taken a team out of the first division before in Colchester and got them promoted.

"So if that wants to be changed and started all over again like the club has done several times then I'll walk out of here with my head held high."
