Cranie seals Charlton loan move

Martin Cranie
Cranie made his Premier League debut for Southampton aged 17

Charlton have signed Portsmouth defender Martin Cranie on loan until the end of 2008.

Cranie, 21, can play right-back or centre-half and is in the England under-21 squad to face Portugal under-21's at Wembley on Friday.

Charlton also finalised a short-term loan deal for Cranie's fellow Pompey defender Linvoy Primus next week.

The Cranie deal was completed just 20 minutes before the end of the August transfer window.
