Charlton manager Alan Pardew has insisted that he is at the Valley for the long-haul and says he will not use short-term fixes to gain promotion.
Addicks chairman Richard Murray offered his backing to Pardew earlier this week after team's recent poor run.
Pardew said: "He's pledged his support for me and I thank him for that.
"I signed a four-year contract to try and build something here like I did at Reading and West Ham so that's what I'm trying to do."
Pardew added: "People are disappointed but none more so than myself. I'd be foolish if I didn't think the responsibility lies with me.
"We've been in the top six all year we've had huge changes in the summer. But just recently we cant get a win some of our performances really haven't deserved that.
"My view when i came here was not to stay for a year get Charlton. At West Ham I got accused of many similar things: signing too many young players, should have brought in more experience, but it stood us in good stead when we got promoted the next year.
"My policy has always been to look at younger players to try and build something and that is what I'll continue to do, in the short-term though it would help to get a win to cheer everybody up."
