Celtic manager Neil Lennon praised his squad for their performance in the 6-0 win against Inverness Caley Thistle in the Co-operative Insurance Cup.

Georgios Samaras netted a hat-trick in the win at Celtic Park and Lennon was pleased to see his side progress.

"Some of the football was fantastic and there were some exceptional performances," said Lennon.

"To score six goals at any stage of the season against any opposition is very pleasing for us."

Samaras put Celtic ahead in the 17th minute after diverting a Joe Ledley drive into the back of the net from close range.

The Greek netted his others on either side of the break, adding to goals from Gary Hooper and a double from Republic of Ireland international Anthony Stokes.

And Lennon felt the comfortable win help his players maintain a winning mentality as they await the outcome of tomorrow's quarter-final draw.

"It'll give the players a huge lift," said Lennon. "It was important that we got through the tie, and it was important that some of the players who hadn't played for a while got some game time.

"We tried to field a strong team and it manifested itself throughout the squad.

"I'm pleased with the squad, it's developing nicely.

"We've got a bit of pace in the team and we've got plenty of players to come back."
