Sutton will be hoping for greater success at Parkhead
Chris Sutton has completed his £6m transfer to Celtic after it was confirmed the striker had passed a medical.

The former Chelsea frontman will now join up with his new team-mates in Copenhagen.

Sutton, who becomes Martin O'Neill's first signing for the Parkhead outfit, comes into contention to feature for Celtic on Wednesday in a friendly fixture in Copenhagen.

But on a day which should have been all about a fresh start for Sutton, he was found guilty of spitting in a man's face by a London court.

The court case was the result of an altercation in London's Soho.

The player was found guilty of two counts of common assault and ordered to pay a £300 fine, £200 costs and £200 compensation.

Sutton, who denied both charges, described the court's decision as a "joke".

At Parkhead on Monday, Sutton said he was looking forward to the challenge after a disappointing season with Chelsea.

"I know I'm a Scottish record transfer, but to be honest it's a bit of a relief coming down in price from £10m to £6m," he said.

"As soon I spoke to Martin O'Neill I knew that I wanted to be involved with a club of Celtic's standing and I am excited about the prospect of playing alongside quality players.

"I am delighted to have signed for Celtic and very much look forward to playing in front of such a massive, passionate and knowledgable support."

O'Neill believes Sutton will demonstrate the ability which saw him establish himself as one of the Premiership's leading talents at Blackburn Rovers.

He said: "I am delighted to have signed a player of the quality of Chris Sutton. He has played at the highest level as an England international and will bring valuable skills and experience to Celtic.

"The club is always interested in top-quality players and in Chris Sutton, I believe, we have secured the services of such a player."
