McDonald has been chosen for the one-off occasion against Brisbane
Scott McDonald has expressed his delight at being named Celtic's captain on their pre-season trip to Australia in the absence of Stephen McManus.
McManus has missed the start of pre-season training through injury and Australian McDonald will take over against Brisbane Roar on 12 July.
"As a lifelong Celtic supporter, I realise just how great an honour it is to be given the captaincy," he said.
"I'd like to thank the manager for this opportunity. My family will be there."
The game at the Suncorp Stadium starts Celtic's pre-season preparations, which also include a friendly at Cardiff's new stadium, and matches against Sunderland and Manchester City in the Wembley Cup.
Manager Tony Mowbray said: "We thought it would be fitting that an Australian-born Celtic player leads the team out in Brisbane and we are all looking forward to the match. We hope that the supporters enjoy the occasion."
