Player prize for Celtic striker

Celtic striker Scott McDonald
McDonald continued to score in March when goals dried up for Celtic

Scott McDonald says he was surprised to receive a Clydesdale Bank award for a month during which Celtic's lack of goals were much highlighted.

The 25-year-old was named player of the month for March in the Scottish Premier League after scoring three times.

"I didn't quite expect it, but it's nice to pick up awards," he said.

"It would be nice to pick up another trophy at the end of the season and Wednesday against Falkirk will be important towards achieving that."

McDonald has played a pivotal role in Celtic's push for a fourth consecutive Scottish league title, scoring 16 times this season.

His two goals against Kilmarnock and one against Dundee United have helped Celtic stay ahead of Glasgow rivals Rangers in the championship race.

And the Australia international also starred as Celtic defeated Rangers to lift the Co-operative Insurance Cup.

McDonald, who continued to score while his strike partners were having a barren spell, has also made his mark on the international stage.

"I feel good about myself at the moment," he said.

"After a successful trip last week, we're in a position now where we only need one more point and we've qualified for the World Cup finals."
