Celts' troublesome Spanish trips
Celtic have played in Spain on 13 occasions, including the 2003/04 Uefa Cup Final in Seville where they lost to Porto.
There have been few matches where Celtic have returned with anything to show for their efforts.
The Bhoys' first foray into Spain was in the Fairs Cup in 1962, when Valencia were 4-2 victors in the first round.
Two years later in the same tournament, Celtic lost 3-1 to Barcelona in the second round.
A 1974 semi-final European Cup tie against Atletico Madrid ended in disappointment when Celtic lost 2-0 in the Calderon Stadium, after a goalless first leg.
In the 1979/80 European Cup, John Doyle and George McCluskey gave Celtic a terrific 2-0 win at Parkhead over Real Madrid, but Del Bosque, Camacho and co put paid to the Scots' hopes when they scored three with no reply in the quarter-final return leg at the Bernabeu.
The pain in Spain continued in 1982/83 when Real Sociedad beat Celtic 2-0 in the European Cup second round. In the home return leg, Murdo MacLeod scored twice but the Scottish champions were eliminated when the Spaniards scored an away goal.
A Maurice Johnston goal earned Celtic a draw in Madrid in the 1985/86 Cup-Winners' Cup first round. Celtic were forced to play their home match against Atletico behind closed doors after crowd trouble in the match against Rapid Vienna the previous season, and lost 2-1.
Valencia were Celtic's next Spanish opponents, in the 2001/02 Uefa Cup. Once again Celtic lost on their travels, this time by a goal to nil and were knocked out on penalties in the return leg in Glasgow.
