McDonald seeks extra away gains

Scott McDonald
McDonald says Celtic must do better away from Parkhead

Celtic have no intention of relying solely on their formidable home form in this season's Champions League, Scott McDonald has claimed.

The SPL champions begin their European campaign against Danish champions Aalborg on Wednesday at Parkhead.

In the past two seasons, Celtic have progressed with a 100 per cent record in Glasgow from the group stages.

But McDonald said: "We don't want to rely on that but it would be nice to get off to a good start at home."

The Australia international admitted Aalborg were something of an unknown quantity when they came out of the pot as one of Celtic's Group E opponents.

But McDonald claimed he has every confidence in the ability of manager Gordon Strachan to identify and exploit their weaknesses.

"We don't know too much about Aalborg at the moment but I'm sure as it gets closer the manager will make sure we get a good look at them," McDonald added.
