Celtic have appointed a full-time head of sport science to help improve players' fitness levels.

Gregory Dupont, 34, will manage the club's sport science operation as part of the medical team, reporting to Dr Derek McCormack.

Dupont has a PhD with distinction in sports science and exercise physiology and previously played professional football in France and Belgium.

He will work with Celtic's first-team, reserves and youth sides.

Dupont told Celtic's website: "I look forward to the many challenges ahead at this great club.

"I hope I can ensure that, ultimately, what our sports science operation does continues to be translated into excellent levels of performance and positive results for the club."

After finishing his playing career, Dupont became head of sport science for Lille in the French first division for seven years.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell added: "We are delighted that Gregory will be joining us at the start of July in preparation for the new season.

"He has an excellent reputation in Europe and will be a great asset to Celtic Football Club.

"Celtic has been at the forefront of developments in this most important area for a number of years and we are sure Gregory's appointment will ensure that we remain there."
