Carlisle midfielder Noble targets Wembley appearance

Noble has made 10 appearances for the Cumbrians

Carlisle midfielder Liam Noble says the prospect of April's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final has increased the competition for first-team places.

The Cumbrians take on Brentford at Wembley, but have nine league matches to play before the trip to the capital.

"Over the next couple of games everyone will be fighting for a place in the team," Noble told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"There are nine games until Wembley, and you want to be in the starting 11 going into that game."

Noble joined the Cumbrians on loan from Sunderland in January, a deal that has since been extended until the end of the season.

He made his professional debut for Greg Abbott's side against Bristol Rovers and has since forged a regular place at the heart of the Carlisle midfield, making 10 appearances.

I've come to play for Carlisle United, it's nothing to do with Sunderland really, I want to do my best for them

"Up to now it's been great, the lads, the gaffer, everyone around the club," added Cramlington-born Noble, who came through the Sunderland academy.

"I couldn't ask for anything more, it's a great club.

"I've come to play for Carlisle United, it's nothing to do with Sunderland really, I want to do my best for them.

"It would be hard to break through at Sunderland, but hopefully one day I might get a chance."
