Carlisle United have signed defender Thomas Cruise on a month-long loan from Premier League side Arsenal.

Cruise, 19, made his first-team debut for the Gunners in the Champions League at Olympiakos last season.

"He's very good on the ball and they speak and think very highly of him [at Arsenal]," United boss Greg Abbott told the club website.

"He has already shown an excellent attitude in the way he has conducted himself this morning."

Abbott added: "It's no secret that we need cover in the left-back area and he's really keen to get involved, so we are all looking forward to working with him."

The England under-19 international can operate as a full-back as well as further forward in midfield.

Meanwhile, Abbott has revealed that Danny Livesey has suffered another set-back in his rehabilitation from a groin injury.

The centre-back made his first appearance of the season at Bristol Rovers on Saturday but was absent for Tuesday's 2-0 win at home to Tranmere Rovers.

"He's had a slight aggravation to the injury," Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"It's probably not strong enough to get him in league action so we'll let him do more strengthening.

"We hope to have him back sooner rather than later."

The 25-year-old has made 237 appearances in all competitions for Carlisle, scoring 16 goals.
