Hottek impresses Cumbrians boss

Carlisle United hope to take another look at Czech midfielder Jakub Hottek after he impressed in the club's 3-2 reserve win over Accrington Stanley.

"He did well enough," Carlisle caretaker boss Greg Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"He's got a lovely touch but whether he's strong and tough enough, we'd have to see a bit more about him."

The former Czech Republic Under-21 international, has previously played for Slavia Prague and Livingston.

"He has to go back home which means we won't get to see enough of him," Abbott said.

"I'd like to see a bit more of him. I'm not sure if that can happen but we are talking to his agent."

Cumbrians midfielder Chris Lumsdon suffered another injury set-back against Accrington.

Lumsdon, who has only just returned from a long-term back injury, was forced off with an ankle injury on 80 minutes.

"It doesn't look too good at the moment. It was pleasing to see him play but obviously disappointing to see him get the injury," Abbott added.

"We'll wait for the physio's report and we'll see how he is then."

Abbott has also confirmed that Newcastle United have refused permission for on-loan goalkeeper Tim Krul to play in Wdnesday's FA Cup second-round tie against Crewe Alexandra at Brunton Park.

Ben Williams is set to play against his former side in place of Krul.

"Ben did very well on Saturday and I think the pressure has lifted off him."

Midfielder Chris Birchall is not eligible to play following his loan move from Coventry City but defender Michael Liddle has been given permission to feature by his parent club Sunderland.
