Maher has parted company with Carlisle following his trial
Carlisle United have decided not to offer a contract to young Irish midfield trialist Stephen Maher.
Maher, 20, arrived at Brunton Park hoping to secure a deal but manager John Ward believes it is best for both parties if the Dubliner moves on.
"I've had a word with him, and it has been a quick decision," Ward told the official club website.
"We have decided to continue to work with the boys we already have here on this occasion."
The Ireland under-21 international began his career with Home Farm in Ireland before enjoying a spell with Dublin City where he attracted the attentions of League One rivals Yeovil Town, joining the Glovers in July 2006.
Meanwhile, defender Peter Murphy was given a boost after his knee injury was found to be less serious than first expected.
