Carlisle have handed a two-year deal to midfielder Shaun Vipond, 18, who has come through the youth ranks to make three appearances this season.
"He has been training with the first team for the last couple of months and has come on leaps and bounds," boss Neil McDonald told the club website.
However, 20-year-old defender James Krause has been released from his contract by mutual consent.
Meanwhile, five other second-year youth players have been released.
Matthew Blake, Andy Hardman, Ashley Combe, Richie Hoban and Terry Stewart are all leaving Brunton Park.
