Carlisle assessing Elliott
Former Newcastle midfielder Stuart Elliott has joined Carlisle on a month's trial, report BBC Radio Cumbria.
Elliott, who also had spells with Darlington and Plymouth, will go straight into the side for Saturday's game at Leyton Orient. Fellow midfielders Steve Solely and Mark Thurstan are both ruled out through injury, with Solely expected to be out for a month with a thigh strain. Meanwhile, John Cunningham is to become assistant to boss Roddy Collins.
