Arsenal recall Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff City

Dave Jones has confirmed that Arsenal have recalled Aaron Ramsey back from his loan spell at Cardiff City.

Ramsey starred in Cardiff's 2-0 win at Championship rivals Hull City on Saturday and has now returned from his month-loan stint with his first club.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has recalled the Wales star and he needs to cover for injured skipper Cesc Fabregas.

"Arsene has called him back," admitted Jones who hopes to arrange a deal for Ramsey to remain longer at Cardiff.

Premier League promotion-chasers Cardiff are unbeaten when Ramsey has been in their team since his loan spell started at the Cardiff City Stadium in January.

The 20-year-old midfielder returned to his first club on loan to regain match-fitness as he stepped up his comeback from a double leg break last year.

The Wales international required surgery to fix fractures to both his tibia and fibula in his right leg following a challenge by Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross.

Ramsey was taken out of the Britannia Stadium on a stretcher after the clash with Shawcross - who was sent off for the foul and left the field in tears - in February 2010 in Arsenal's 3-1 win at Stoke.

The young Welshman, who attracted bids from Manchester United and Everton before Arsenal paid Cardiff £5m for him in the summer of 2008, returned to playing in November 2010 against Leicester City during a loan spell at Nottingham Forest .

Ramsey scored the first goal of his comeback playing on loan for Cardiff against the same opposition as victory over Leicester on Tuesday.

And he also featured as Cardiff beat Hull 2-0 at The KC Stadium before swapping a Championship promotion chase for a Premier League title challenge.

But Jones still hopes to persuade Arsenal to leave Ramsey on loan in south Wales on a 24-hour call-back basis.

"We'll still work at it to see if something can be done," said Jones.

"So fingers crossed. Arsene might change his mind."

Jones had admitted he felt Ramsey would prefer to play for Cardiff and regain match-fitness than sit on the Arsenal substitutes bench.

But Ramsey's Arsenal playing hopes could be helped by the injuries to midfield duo Fabregas (hamstring) and Theo Walcott (ankle) as both have been ruled out on Sunday's Carling Cup final.

And Wenger did confirm on Wednesday: "I intend to use him, I have had good reports from Cardiff.

"He is on loan until Saturday. After that he comes back.

Ramsey admitted after his goal in Tuesday's 2-0 win over promotion rivals Leicester that he feels his match-sharpness is improving.

"I feel I'm getting back my best," he said. "I hope that'll continue so I can get back to where I was and better.

"I wanted to get a goal before I go back and I was glad it came at home.

"I feel I'm getting there. That is what these games are for, to get me back into the swing of things and I feel that is coming each game that I'm getting better and stronger."

Ramsey's first goal since January 2010 - and third goal in two spells at Cardiff - may be a major psychological boost since for the player but boss Jones insists his injury is now history.

"He is over the injury," insisted the experienced manager following Cardiff's 2-0 victory over Leicester on Tuesday.

"What he needs is games and you probably saw in the last 15 minutes is he is not at that top level yet.

"For us it is good enough but for the next level he is probably just a few games still short."
