Cardiff City has lost out on new players - Dave Jones

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones says the club's financial uncertainty means he has missed out on signing his target players in the January transfer window.

The Bluebirds cannot sign players until they have settled a £2.7m tax bill, and are facing a winding up order on 10 February in the High Court.

Jones' squad has been stripped bare because of illness and injury, but they still beat Bristol City 6-0 on Tuesday.

"People I had on my list have gone so I can't get them now," he said.

"I'm still chipping away and I'm still hanging in there and I hope we can still do business.

"At the moment if we keep winning like this then everyone thinks everything's right, but we still need the players.

"I haven't got cover for Jay [Bothroyd], I need cover up there for him, I need cover for the wide positions... everywhere else we're okay."

Bluebirds chairman Peter Ridsdale says he is still "confident" the club will pay its bills before having to face the High Court on 10 February.

But in the meantime there seems to be no new money for players, despite around £3m being raised from a season ticket initiative specifically aimed at funding transfers this month.

Cardiff are hopeful of securing new investment soon, with Guernsey-based businessman Ben Steele the latest money man in the frame.

"If it doesn't happen then I'll do what I've done every year, I'll just get on with it, that's my job," Jones said, after watching his side's stunning victory at Ashton Gate.
