Cardiff warn Hull over Ledley fee

Joe Ledley has only a year left on his Cardiff City contract

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones says Hull City are interested in Joe Ledley but says they will not let the Wales midfielder go on the cheap.

Hull boss Phil Brown was in the stands on Wednesday night as Cardiff marked the official opening of their new stadium with a 0-0 draw against Celtic.

"I saw Phil before he came in. If he pays the money the club are asking then there isn't a problem," Jones said.

"I can't do anything about that if the price is right."

Ledley, 22, has a year left on his Bluebirds deal, meaning Cardiff will either want to sell him now or secure the player on a new contract.

Cardiff rejected a reported £6m bid for Ledley last summer from Stoke and there was more interest in the January transfer window.

"If Joe won't sign a contract, then he will go - but we won't let him go cheaply," Jones said.

"People keep going on about the fact he has got a year left of his contract. I don't see why that should make him any cheaper. I'm astounded when people do that.

"So I say, 'wait a year then'. If we've been offered £6m six months ago, why has his valuation gone down because he has decided to run his contract out?

"I don't see why one year should make any difference whatsoever because he then falls under the compensation [as Ledley is under-23 and a Cardiff product].

"If teams want him, why are they going to wait a year? I don't understand that thought process... because others might come in and pay the money."

As well as Ledley, Hull are also rumoured to be interested in Cardiff's Ross McCormack, believed to be rated at £4m.

But Jones says he did not discuss his Scotland striker with counterpart Brown, but reiterated that any interest is a moot point unless other clubs match Cardiff's own valuation.

"Phil never mentioned Ross to me," Jones added. "Phil can look at them all, but if he doesn't pay what the club wants then he'll go home empty-handed again."

Meanwhile, chairman Peter Ridsdale says he as received and enquiry from an unnamed club about winger Paul Parry.
