Career progress pleases Magennis

Young striker Josh Magennis was pleased to score in Cardiff's 4-0 friendly win over Chasetown at City's new stadium.

"The back-room staff told me not to worry about scoring, but I had my chance and took it so I'm as pleased as punch," he told BBC Sport Wales.

Jay Bothroyd and Michael Chopra boosted the Bluebirds in their first game at the ground with first-half goals.

Manager Dave Jones made 10 changes at half-time, replacements Magennis and Adam Matthews coming on to score.

Both players have been added to Cardiff's first-team squad for the pre-season tour to Portugal, along with another youngster, Arron Morris.

Darcy Blake has been ruled out after picking up a groin strain in the warm-up for the Chasetown match.

"I've enjoyed pre-season a lot, I feel that I've progressed," said Magennis, an 18-year-old from Bangor, Northern Ireland, who has also featured as a goalkeeper at Cardiff but is now seen as a striker.

"Now going to Portugal with the first team will be a chance to progress further.

"The players love the new stadium, the pitch and the facilities.

"It's a big step from Ninian Park... it's more modern, everything's better."
