Defender Quinn seals Cardiff move

Paul Quinn has been unveiled as Dave Jones' fifth summer signing after the Motherwell captain signed a three-year deal at Cardiff City.

The full-back joined for an estimated fee of £300,000 and is Cardiff's third defensive signing in three days.

"It's nice to get the deal done and I'm delighted to be here," the 23-year-old told the club's official website.

Quinn, Cardiff's sixth Scottish player, follows defensive duo Mark Hudson and Anthony Gerrard to join the Welsh club.

Goalkeeper David Marshall and striker Michal Chopra have also signed permanently for Cardiff this summer from Norwich and Sunderland respectively.

Quinn's arrival further bolsters the Bluebirds back-line following the signings of centre-backs Hudson from Charlton Athletic and Gerrard from Walsall.

Cardiff lost key centre-back Roger Johnson to Birmingham City after the Premier League new boys splashed out £5m for him while out of contract Darren Purse left for Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer.

The Bluebirds missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs on the final day of the season after defeat to Sheffield Wednesday despite spending most of the season in the top six.

So Cardiff boss Jones has strengthened his squad to ensure the Welsh club are in better shape this season - in their first year in their new £30m Cardiff City Stadium.

"After speaking to Cardiff and coming down to see the new stadium, I was sure this was where I wanted to be," said Quinn.

"I'm just looking forward to getting settled in Cardiff now and starting pre-season training.

"It'll be great to meet all the lads and start work and I'm really looking forward to starting the new season."

Quinn, who graduated through the Motherwell ranks and made his senior debut in 2002, had been linked with a move to Scottish side Heart of Midlothian before he joined Cardiff.

Quinn will be the sixth Scot at Cardiff joining Marshall, winger Chris Burke, midfielder Gavin Rae, striker Ross McCormack and fellow full-back Kevin McNaughton.
