Cardiff boss Dave Jones says Paul Parry has been "vilified and crucified" over his decision to walk out on Wales.
Parry, 28, retired from international duty two days before Wednesday's 2-1 loss in Russia stating he felt he was "just making up the numbers".
But Jones hit back saying: "Whether his timing is right or wrong, he has decided not to play for his national team.
"He is being absolutely vilified and crucified at this moment in time."
Parry had only recently returned to the Wales squad following an 18-month self-imposed absence, playing in the 2-1 friendly loss to Georgia in Swansea last month.
He withdrew from Wales' Euro 2008 qualifying mid-campaign citing personal reasons, his last competitive international appearance coming as a substitute in the 3-0 win over San Marino in March 2007.
