Cardiff City's Riccardo Scimeca admits there is no escaping FA Cup fever as they prepare to face West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.

The Baggies travel to Ninian Park on Tuesday with their FA Cup semi-final against Portsmouth to come on Saturday.

The Bluebirds face Barnsley at Wembley on Sunday and Scimeca said: "It's difficult not to think about that game.

"Everybody's very excited. But we've got to think about a big game against West Brom first."

The visitors go into the clash in fourth, eight places above the Bluebirds, who also harbour hopes of making the play-off places.

Scimeca said: "We've got to look forward to Tuesday night and hopefully get the three points from that because we're also doing well in the league.

"I don't think it would be different if we were playing a top-five side who didn't have the FA Cup on the horizon.

"We want to go into each game thinking about winning it. West Brom also have the league to go for.

"They are in a play-off spot and want to get promoted, as we do. Their minds will be as fully focused on the game as ours."

Scimeca believes beating Middlesbrough to reach the last four in the Cup has helped the Bluebirds' league form.

"I think the FA Cup has helped us in the league by taking a bit of the pressure off us," he said.

"We got ourselves through against Middlesbrough in the Cup and Dave Jones pulled us to one side and said 'ok, we've done that, we're into the semi-final, now forget about that for a month and concentrate on the league' and that's what we managed to do.

"We went into the league full of confidence after that game against Middlesbrough and picked up some valuable league points and hopefully we can do that again on Tuesday.

"West Brom are the biggest side in the Championship. They've got the pedigree - they've been in the Premiership, have a lot of history and have some very, very talented players.

"They've been favourites all season to get promoted so it's going to be a big game for us.

"Let's get this one out of the way first, concentrate on it and then we focus can all our attentions to Sunday."
