John Robinson wants Gareth Whalley to stay with Cardiff despite his involvement in the bonus cash row.
Whalley needs to play one more game to
qualify for a £50,000 bonus, but was dropped against Preston and for last Saturday's match against Wimbledon.
Boss Lennie Lawrence says Whalley may feel his position is now "untenable".
But Robinson wants his fellow midfielder to stay at Ninian Park: "He is an asset to Cardiff, a fantastic player and a fantastic professional."
Whalley has one final opportunity to make the 23rd appearance he needs for the bonus when Cardiff face Ipswich at Portman Road on Sunday.
"If Gareth is thinking about whether he should stay or maybe go, then that is between him and the club," Robinson added. "But as far as I am concerned I want him to stay."
