Jeanne avoids drugs ban
Leon Jeanne has Cardiff City's full support
Jeanne will undergo extensive rehabilitation treatment
Cardiff City's Wales under-21striker Leon Jeanne has escaped an automatic suspension for failing a random drug test.

The Football Association of Wales have instead decided to give the troubled player a last chance to make the most of his footballing talent.

Jeanne, who tested positive for a Class A drug 10 weeks ago, has been given a two-year suspended sentence with strict rehabilitation conditions.

Cardiff owner Sam Hammam praised the FAW disciplinary committee for their "humane" treatment of the 21-year-old.

"The Football Association of Wales saw the man first and the footballer second," Hammam told The Mirror.

Inspiration

"They recognised Leon is a soul who never had a chance in life and acted in a humane manner.

"Leon will join Alcoholics Anonymous. He will also receive a proper scholastic education - his education will be monitored until he becomes fully literate."

Hammam added: "I now want him to improve - he should receive his inspiration from the likes of Tony Adams and Paul Merson.

"I only wish he could read their books and share what they went through."
