City keeper thanks his coaches
Neil Alexander is learning his lessons well
Neil Alexander is delighted with his move to Cardiff City - especially with the coaching help he has received from two 'legends' of the game.
The former Livingston keeper admitted one of the reasons he moved to Wales was the chance to work with ex-Scotland number one George Wood. And with Wood absent from Ninian Park on family business, the 23-year-old has now come under the wing of Wales legend Neville Southall. Alexander is full of praise for all the help he has recieved - from both men. Presence "George was one of the big reasons why I came down here. I heard of his reputation up in Scotland as a goalkeeping coach. "In the last two months he has been a massive influence on me, but Neville has come in this last week and he brings something different to it. "He has a lot of advice and is a great presence around the place, getting respect wherever he goes. "I still have a lot to learn and with George and Neville about, I am going to learn a lot more." Alexander was delighted to keep a clean sheet in his City debut against Wycombe, and said the occasion was a lot different to what he is used to.
"The atmosphere was unbelievable. I have never played in front of a crowd that big before (17,000), which made me enjoy it even more. "It was a wee bit faster and more physical to what I am used to, but I enjoyed it. The game flew by, which was good, and we got a good result." The Scottish youngster is also targetting a place in the national side - but not just yet. "It's a bit premature at the moment," he said. "It's nice to hear, but I'm only 23 and Scotland have four good, senior goalkeepers. "If the chance did come up in the next couple of years I would be absolutely delighted. It's a big ambition of mine to play for my country."
