Cambridge's Adam Marriott out to kick-start season

Cambridge United striker Adam Marriott believes the appointment of Jez George as caretaker manager could kick-start his season.

The 19-year-old, who has started just two matches for the U's this term, played under George in the U's academy.

Marriott told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I've just got to keep working hard each day in training.

"Jez George knows us youngsters well so we've got a really good chance of getting some games."

Much was expected of Marriott ahead of the current season, but his progress has been hampered in part by injury.

"I was planning to get in the team a bit earlier but hopefully I'll get more of a chance between now and the end of the season," he said.

Marriott initially worked with George at Cambridge City, but the pair transferred to the Abbey Stadium in 2006.

The U's have suffered five straight defeats in the Blue Square Bet Premier, with back-to-back losses against Rushden over the past week.

However Marriott expects the situation to improve sooner rather than later.

"We're keeping our heads up as we know we've got good players in the changing room and we know we can turn it around," he said.
