Martin Ling lines up Cambridge United signings

Cambridge United will be adding at least one player to their squad in the next week, promises boss Martin Ling.

The U's are in the market for a winger, central midfielder and striker, and Ling is optimistic of filling all those positions swiftly.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "There will be a new signing on Tuesday to cover one of those positions.

"We have also progressed on one of the centre forwards. I think there'll be a couple of bits of movement next week."

He added: "I still think the jigsaw will be in place by the time we return on 5 July.

"The bits of that finished jigsaw are a wide left player, who's left-footed, a central midfield player and a forward, both with experience.

"Then another forward will come down to what money we have left after those three come in."

Ling is keeping specific names to himself for the time being, but hinted the additions would be familiar to fans of the Blue Square Bet Premier side.

"All the players I bring in will be players we know," he said.

"I feel we've got enough youngsters of our own. I certainly don't want players who are 30-plus.

"There's some decent money left there to spend and we need to spend it on players who are proven in this league or the league above."
